Antonio Banderas attended to the auditions of The Phantom of the Opera

The new production of LetsGo and APS will premiere at the Teatro Albéniz in Madrid on 4th October.

In the midst of nerves, Antonio Banderas, partner with Andrew Lloyd Webber since last year in APS (Friends Forever), visited the audition of The Phantom of the Opera.  Webber`s classic will premiere at the Teatro Albeniz in Spain on 4th October.

Antonio Banderas confirmed that he has no artistic involvement in the new production. According to him the show will not be the same version that is currently playing in London and until very soon was playing on Broadway, but this doesn`t mean that this is minor compared to the West End and Broadway shows. He confirmed that this version of the Phantom hadn't been reduced, it's merely a new version. He also stated that the intention to do a non-replica show is to enter new markets.

He also mentioned that they wanted to have a new creative, and in this case, it is Bellone, who has given to the musical a more gothic character while respecting the score. It was essential to create a show which is more mobile, and due to this will fit in more, smaller theatres. With this version of The Phantom of the Opera, the production will be able to reach all of Latin America and tell the same story to the audience all over there.

The new version of the show will premiere in Madrid in October and will probably also be the same as that seen this summer in Trieste starring Ramin Karimloo, as confirmed by Banderas to BroadwayWorld Spain. "We have to test what the public's response is, and based on that, we'll look at the next steps, and what the next APS titles will be. It's a very beautiful and serious proposal, maybe simpler at heart, but there's a lot of imagination in how it's cooking in Bellone's head."
