Les Misérables premiere in Germany in March

The musical classic will premiere in Munich on 22 March

The German premiere is set to be at the Gartner Platz Theater in Munich on 22 March 2024. Les Misérables is based on the novel by Victor Hugo, with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, the original French book is by Alain Boubil and Jean-Marc Natel, and German translation by Heinz Rudolf Kunze. Orchestration by Stephen Metcalfe, Christopher Jahnke and Stephen Brooker, original orchestration by John Cameron. Director of the German version Josef E. Köpplinger, choreographer and co-director Ricarda Regina Ludigkeit. Costume designer Uta Meenen, and light designer Andreas Enzler.

As convict 24601, Jean Valjean spent years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread for his starving family. When he was released on parole in 1815, he encountered a brutal environment that stigmatized him as a criminal. To start a new life, Valjean goes into hiding and is relentlessly hunted by Police Inspector Javert. Having become wealthy, he frees Cosette, the daughter of the worker Fantine, from the clutches of the unscrupulous Thénardiers and takes her into his care. Together, the two get caught up in the June 1832 uprising in Paris, which gives the protagonists' lives a dramatic turn ...
