A Dark Icon Reborn: American Psycho Premieres at the Almeida Theatre

The musical will run from 22 January to 14 March
The cult-favourite musical American Psycho, based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, is set to return to London’s Almeida Theatre with a revival beginning on 22 January 2026, with performances running through to 14 March 2026.
Helmed once again by director Rupert Goold — who originally mounted the 2013 premiere — the production retains the edgy book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik.
Taking on the chilling role of Patrick Bateman will be actor Arty Froushan. The full cast includes a strong ensemble: leads such as Emily Barber (Evelyn Williams) and Oli Higginson (Timothy Price), along with a broader company covering all major roles and ensemble parts.
The revival offers more than a nostalgic revisit. As part of Goold’s final season as Artistic Director, the new run intends to re-examine the show with fresh eyes — a chance to explore what might have changed since the original staging in 2013.
Like the original, the 2026 staging promises a dark, satirical plunge into the materialism and moral emptiness of 1980s corporate excess — but with the benefit of hindsight and renewed social context. For audience members aged 25 and under, the theatre is offering special £5 tickets for performances from 22–29 January.
