ATG Entertainment to bring Moulin Rouge! The Musical from Cologne to Hamburg

After more than four years in Cologne, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is preparing for a new chapter. ATG Entertainment has announced that the lavish production will relocate to Hamburg in autumn 2026, taking up residence at the Theater am Großmarkt — a venue long associated with large-scale theatrical spectacle.

Since its German premiere in 2022 at Cologne’s Musical Dome, the adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s iconic 2001 film has drawn audiences with its opulent visual language and pop-infused score. The story — a fin-de-siècle romance between the idealistic writer Christian and the dazzling cabaret star Satine — blends theatrical melodrama with contemporary chart hits, creating a hybrid aesthetic that has proven commercially resilient across international markets.

Hamburg, often described as Germany’s musical capital, offers fertile ground for the next phase of the production. The Theater am Großmarkt will undergo technical and spatial modifications to recreate the immersive world of the Parisian nightclub, complete with its signature red windmill and layered stage architecture. The move signals not merely a change of address, but a recalibration toward a city whose audiences are accustomed to long-running blockbuster formats.

For ATG Entertainment, the transfer underscores Hamburg’s continued importance within the European musical circuit. For the production itself, it represents a geographic and symbolic shift: from the Rhineland’s vibrant cultural scene to the northern port city that has become synonymous with large-scale commercial theatre in Germany.

Cologne will bid farewell on July 18, 2026. Hamburg, meanwhile, prepares to raise the curtain on a spectacle that celebrates excess, passion, and the enduring appeal of theatrical glamour.

Ticket sales for the Hamburg run have already begun.
