The success of The Sound of Music movie made the soundtrack a hit back in 1965. The album climbed up to the top of the Billboard 200 chart list and stayed in the top 10 for 109 weeks. The recording is so significant that it was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2018 as it is culturally, historically or artistically significant.

Not a surprise that the soundtrack was re-released multiple times. But this last release is the first when the audience will hear Christopher Plummer’s original vocals in Eidelweiss. His vocal was originally deemed insufficient after the recording session and was dubbed by singer Bill Lee.

Mike Matessino, who remixed and remastered the album from the original multi-track tapes, has written for this release. "You will hear what you’ve heard before, famous songs with the mellifluous tones of Dame Julie Andrews leading the way, but the experience has been transformed beyond what the 1965 soundtrack album offered—with extensions to the songs, a brilliantly arranged underscore, and even some segments not used in the completed version of the film."

For the first time ever, hear Christopher Plummer’s original vocals (dubbed by Bill Lee in the 1965 film and original soundtrack), featured on The Sound of Music’s Super Deluxe Edition – now available to stream or purchase. The Super Deluxe Edition is also available in a variety of physical editions, the "Super Deluxe Edition" includes the entirety of the film's music for the first time, which together with alternate takes and instrumental versions of each song amounts to 40 previously unreleased tracks.
