Freaky Friday The Musical premieres at HOME Manchester

This winter, theatre-lovers in Manchester have reason to get excited: the vibrant new musical Freaky Friday (The Musical) is arriving at HOME Manchester for its UK stage premiere. Audiences can catch the show from 27 November until 10 January 2026 as part of the festive season line-up.

Based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the much-loved film adaptations, the story centres on an overworked mother, Katherine, and her teenage daughter, Ellie. One chaotic day they swap bodies — a setup that promises laugh-out-loud comedy, heartfelt transformation and genuine family bonding.

The creative team behind the production is impressive. The book is by Bridget Carpenter, while the music and lyrics come from the Tony and Pulitzer-winning duo Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey — whose credits include Next to Normal. Leading the production is director Andy Fickman, best known for his work adapting cult hits for the stage.

Rebecca Lock is leading the show as Katherine  and Jena Pandya will appear as her daughter Ellie, joined by Ian Virgo as Mike, Samantha Ho as Gretchen, Beth Savill as Hannah, Jessica Butterworth as Savannah, Ellie Gilbert-Grey as Laurel, Max Mirza as Adam, Morgan Gregory as Parker, Dylan Gordon-Jones as Wells, Waylon Jacobs as Dr Ehrin, Tori Scott as Torrey, Katharine Pearson as Danielle, James Stirling as Grampa Jo, and Catherine Millsom as Grandma Helene. Child casting is to be revealed.

What makes this production particularly appealing is its family-friendly nature — a refreshing alternative to traditional pantomime, offering modern music, relatable characters and a story about empathy and understanding across generations. With the festive setting and limited run, it promises to be a memorable night out for parents and teens alike.

If you’re planning to go, it’s wise to book early: given the run covers the busy Christmas period in Manchester, tickets are sure to sell fast. The tone of the show suggests it will bring both heart and high energy to the stage — a perfect treat to add to your seasonal theatre list.
