Hadestown to transfer to the West End
Hadestown will return to London in 2024, but no venue, date or casting announced yet.
After the National Theatre run in 2018 Hadestown is playing on Broadway and won 8 Tony Awards, including best musical.
Hadestown is based on Anaïs Mitchell’s concept album, book, lyrics and music by Anaïs Mitchell as well. The musical directed by Rachel Chavkin, design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Michael Krass, lighting design by Bradley King, sound design by Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz, choreography by David Neumann, musical direction and vocal arrangements by Liam Robinson, orchestrations and arrangements by Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose, with Ken Cerniglia as dramaturg.
The story is about a journey through the Greek underworld and the storyline loosely adapts the Greek myth of tragic lovers Orpheus and Eurydice as well as the gods Hades and Persephone.
The producers have issued a statement about the West End production, saying: “Producers for the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical Hadestown by acclaimed singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, have confirmed a West End production to open in London in 2024. The venue, run dates and casting are to be confirmed.”
