Hairspray is back on tour next year

The tour will launch at Manchester's Palace Theatre on 2nd July 2027

The feel-good musical comedy Hairspray is heading back out on tour, with Neil Hurst returning to reprise the iconic role of Edna Turnblad. Further casting is to be announced.

Winner of eight Tony Awards on Broadway and four Olivier Awards in the West End, Hairspray is packed with big-hearted comedy, dazzling dance routines and hit songs including ‘Welcome to the 60s’, ‘Good Morning Baltimore’ and ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’.

Set in Baltimore in 1962, the musical follows Tracy Turnblad as she dreams of dancing her way onto national television – and soon finds herself using her newfound fame to stand up for equality.

Funny, joyous and full of energy, Hairspray remains a family-friendly musical with a powerful message of tolerance, inclusion and the fight against racism.

When Tracy becomes a local star, she uses her newfound fame to stand up for equality, challenge segregation and win the heart of Link Larkin along the way.

Based on the 1988 film, Hairspray features music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan. The musical opened on Broadway in 2002, winning eight Tony Awards, before transferring to the West End and winning multiple Olivier Awards.
