Heathers are back to New York in this summer
The musical will run at New World Stages from 22 June to 28 September
Following a smash hit run in London’s West End, the WhatsOnStage BEST NEW MUSICAL winner, Heathers the Musical is heading back to NYC this summer.
Initial casting has been announced; Lorna Courtney will play Veronica Sawyer and Casey Likes will appear as Jason "J. D." Dean.
Director Andy Fickman said in a statement: “I’m so very thrilled to have Lorna Courtney and Casey Likes starring as Veronica Sawyer and J.D. in our new production of Heathers The Musical. Their passion, energy, and incredible talent will bring these iconic characters to life in ways that will resonate profoundly with audiences. I couldn't be more excited to see them make these roles their own. Each step of the auditioning process, they continued digging deeper and deeper into the writing and we marveled at the discoveries they made and cannot wait for audiences to experience them as well.”

Lorna Courtney added: “Playing Veronica is like being given the keys to a world of contradictions. She's strong, vulnerable, comedic, and heartbreaking all at once. It’s a character that demands you find your voice, even as the world burns around you. To play her is to find the power in being yourself, no matter how messy that is.”
Casey Likes said: “I’m really thrilled and honored to play the role of J.D. This role and story have meant a lot to people since the film came out, and ignited again since the creation of the musical, and I’m just looking forward to joining and hopefully honoring the legacy of that, while making it my own. Getting to dive into the complicated, sometimes dark, sometimes hopeful nature of J.D. is not only something I’m excited to do, alongside the amazing Lorna Courtney, but also something I hope to surprise audiences with.”
The story is about Westerberg High, where popularity is a matter of life and death, and Veronica Sawyer is just another of the nobodies dreaming of a better day. But when she’s unexpectedly taken under the wings of the three beautiful and impossibly cruel Heathers, her dreams of popularity finally start to come true. That is until JD, the mysterious teen rebel, teaches her that it might kill to be a nobody, but it is murder being a somebody…
