Kiss Me, Kate in Austria

Cole Porter’s musical will run from 19 October to 22 November in Baden

The plot of Kiss Me, Kate is based on one of the most important works of world literature, Shakespeare's THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. The play is set in the theatre milieu. It is about a travelling theatre troupe that plays Shakespeare's play – the story of Kate, the stubborn woman, and Petruchio, the man who "tames" her. Lilli Vanessi, who plays Kate, used to be married to Fred Graham, who plays Petruchio and directs at the same time. The two are now divorced and live out their quarrels and fights on and off stage - and of course find each other again in the end.
Cole Porter has composed evergreens for this musical adaptation such as "Wonderful", "Fight the Man", "I Will Weiben Myself Rich Here in Padua", "So Crazy About You", "Would Be Your Face", "Where Is the Man I Once Was", "It's Much Too Hot", "Look Up Shakespeare".

Music by Cole Porter, book by Bella and Samuel Spewack, musical direction by Michael Zehetner, staging and choreography by Ramesh Nair, staging by Stephan Prattes, costumes by Friederike Friedrich.

The cast is led by Darius Merstein-MacLeod as Fred Graham / Petruchio and Patricia Nessy/Verena Scheitz as Lilli Vanessi / Katharina joined by Steven Armin Novak as Bill Calhoun / Lucentio, Marina Petkov as Louis Lane / Bianca, Beppo Binder as Harry Trevor / Baptista, Tini Kainrath as Hattie, Lilli Vanessis Garderobiere, Niklas Schurz as Paul, Fred Graham's Garderobier, Franz Josef Koepp as Harrison Howell, Florian Stanek as First crook, Markus Störk as Second crook, Alexander Findewirth as Gremio, first suitor and Lukas Weinberg as Hortensio, second suitor with Orchestra, Choir and Ballet of the Baden Stage.
