Next to Normal West End transfer
After the Donmar Warehouse run the musical is coming back to London
Next to Normal is to transfer into the West End.
Next to Normal has music by Tom Kitt, a book, and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. The musical was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and won the Best Original Score, Best Orchestration and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical in 2009 on Broadway. It also won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2010.
The rock musical has its premiere at Donmar Warehouse on 14 August, directed by Michael Longhurst.
The critically acclaimed musical is an intimate exploration of family and loss. At its heart is Diana Goodman, a suburban wife and mother living with bipolar disorder and haunted by her past.
According to the plans the show will play from 18 June to 21 September 2024 at the Wyndham’s Theatre for a 14-week only run.
Longhurst commented on the transfer: “Some stories pierce the heart of the human condition: Tom and Brian’s astonishing musical does just that – facing our deepest vulnerabilities whilst celebrating our capacity to endure. The outpouring of emotion from audiences at the Donmar was incredible: you could hear audible sobs before they surged to their feet every single night – like nothing I’ve experienced. Tickets were impossible to come by, so I am beyond thrilled that more people will now be able to experience the work of this extraordinary creative team.”
Casting for the West End run is yet to be confirmed.
