Opera North’s The Sound of Music cast has been announced

The musical will run from 9th July to 1st August at Leeds Grand Theatre

The story needs no introduction… Worlds collide when free-spirited nun Maria is made governess in the strict household of Captain von Trapp. Through music, play and an infectious zest for life she wins the confidence of the seven von Trapp children, and even softens the Captain’s guarded heart. But beyond the warmth and humour of this beloved musical lies a powerful tale of love and standing together when it matters most.

The show is led by Katie Bird as Maria and Edward Bennett as Captain von Trapp joined by Katherine Broderick as Mother Abbess, Abigail Sinclair and April Perrott sharing the role of Liesl von Trapp, Kamil Bień as Rolf Gruber, Amy Freston as Baroness Elsa Schraeder, Nicholas Butterfield as Max Detweiler, Molly Barker-Knowles as Sister Berthe, Hannah Mason as Sister Margaretta, Gillene Butterfield as Sister Sophia, Dean Robinson as Franz, Claire Pascoe as Frau Schmidt, Ivan Sharpe as Herr Zeller, Tim Ochala-Greenough as Admiral von Schreiber, Graham Russell as Baron Elberfeld and Helen Évora as Baroness Elberfeld with the orchestra and chorus of Opera North.

The Sound of Music has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The musical is directed by Nikolai Foster, associate director Ollie Khurshid, musical director Oliver Rundell, set and costume designer Michael Taylor, lighting designer Mark Henderson, choreographer Ebony Molina, associate choreographer Dale White and casting consultant Becky Paris CDG.
