RENT to celebrate 30th Anniversary with special Broadway Concert

The groundbreaking musical Rent is returning to Broadway for a one-night-only anniversary concert celebrating 30 years since Jonathan Larson’s iconic rock musical first premiered.
Three decades after it changed musical theatre forever, Rent is set to mark its 30th anniversary with a special one-night-only Broadway concert later this year. According to reports, the event will reunite key creative forces from the original production, including longtime musical director Tim Weil and members of the original Rent band.
Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical first debuted in 1996 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Set in New York’s East Village during the height of the AIDS crisis, the show follows a group of young artists navigating love, friendship, poverty and identity. Its rock-inspired score and emotionally charged storytelling helped redefine modern Broadway.
While the theatre hosting the anniversary concert has not yet been announced, anticipation is already building among fans of the beloved musical. The celebration comes amid renewed interest in Rent, with additional anniversary productions planned in New York and London throughout 2026.
