Starlight Express Races into Cinemas in November 2026

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express is heading to the big screen for the first time, bringing the spectacular, high-speed musical to cinema audiences in November 2026. Filmed live at London’s Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, Starlight Express – Live On Stage will capture the energy, music and roller-skating action of the acclaimed production for audiences beyond the theatre.

The cinema release is scheduled for 26 November 2026 in Australia, with UK cinema screenings also planned. The filmed production offers fans an opportunity to experience the show’s distinctive combination of musical theatre, speed and spectacular staging on the big screen.

A legendary musical comes to the big screen

With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, Starlight Express tells the story of a child’s train set that magically comes to life. The engines compete to become the fastest in the world, while Rusty, a steam locomotive initially considered an unlikely winner, finds hope and determination through the legendary Starlight Express.

The musical has entertained audiences around the world for more than four decades, with over 30 million people having seen the show. Its imaginative world of racing trains, memorable songs and dynamic choreography has made it one of Lloyd Webber’s most recognisable stage works.

The filmed version was captured at the specially designed Starlight Auditorium at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, where the London revival transformed the venue into an immersive railway racing arena. Directed for the screen by Brett Sullivan, the production features a company of 40 performers, bringing the musical’s colourful characters and exhilarating races to cinema screens.

London revival stars lead the filmed production

The principal cast includes Jeevan Braich, Jade Marvin, Olivia Ringrose, Asher Forth and Sophie Naglik, alongside George Jones. Their performances bring the familiar railway characters to life in a production designed around speed, movement and large-scale theatrical spectacle.

The London revival opened in June 2024 and went on to receive major awards, including an Olivier Award and seven WhatsOnStage Awards. Following the conclusion of its London run in May 2026, the production is set to reach new audiences through its cinema release before the musical embarks on a world tour in 2027.

When can audiences see Starlight Express in cinemas?

The Australian release is listed for 26 November 2026, while UK cinemas have also begun listing screenings. Individual venues may offer different dates, so audiences should check their local cinema listings for confirmed performances and ticket availability.

For musical theatre fans, the cinema release promises a chance to experience the spectacular world of Starlight Express in a different setting, combining the scale of a theatrical production with the accessibility of the big screen.
