The Devil Wears Prada German-language premiere in Hamburg

The musical will premiere in December 202
Stage Entertainment is bringing the musical adaptation of the cult film "The Devil Wears Prada" to Germany. The production will be shown in Hamburg from December 2026. The company announced this today as part of a casting tender. After the great commercial success in London's West End, the play celebrates its German-language premiere.
The plot follows the young journalist Andy Sachs, who gets a job with the feared editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine "Runway", Miranda Priestly. In the midst of the glamorous but merciless fashion world, she has to assert herself between her own values and the extreme demands of her bossy boss.
The musical version is based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger and the 2006 feature film. Pop legend Sir Elton John is responsible for the music, the lyrics are by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick, and the book was written by Kate Wetherhead. In the current West End production, which premiered in autumn 2024 at London's Dominion Theatre, Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (including "Kinky Boots") is responsible for both direction and choreography. The visual design with the iconic costumes was created by Gregg Barnes.
The production history was marked by a striking turning point: After an initial try-out phase in Chicago in 2022, which was under a different creative direction (directed by Anna D. Shapiro) and met with a mixed response, the show was fundamentally revised. With Jerry Mitchell as the new head of the creative team, the production restarted in Plymouth in 2024 before becoming a crowd-puller in London. Hamburg is now securing the first international license of this revised version – in the same year that the sequel to the film premieres in cinemas.
Who will slip into the roles of Miranda Priestly or her assistant Andy Sachs in the German-language stage version will be decided in the current casting process. Which of Hamburg's Stage-Theater will host the show has not yet been officially confirmed.
